2008 Meeting Abstracts

When & Where
The 2008 annual meeting will be held in Chattanooga, TN, on Thursday and Friday, 13-14 November, at the Chattanooga Convention Center. All questions and correspondence about the meeting can be sent to sfc.meetings[at]gmail.com.

Theme
This year, we will hold a special symposium on the " Desperate Dozen," the most imperiled fishes of the Southeast.

Meeting Registration
Early registration will be $70 for SFC non-student members and $25 for SFC student members. Non-members will be charged $100 and $50, for students and non-students, respectively. Not a member yet? Join here. Registration includes a box lunch on Thursday, breaks, and a joint poster session and reception at the Tennessee Aquarium. There will also be a field trip to the Conasauga River on Saturday. Transportation is not provided.

Call for Papers
The call for abstracts will be issued on July 14, and will close on October 10. As with last year, abstracts will be submitted as an email attachment to sfc.meetings[at]gmail.com.

Meeting Accommodations
We have reserved a block of rooms at the Staybridge Suites Chattanooga Downtown. They have studios with 1 queen bed and 1 queen sleeper sofa, and one-bedroom suites. The one-bedroom suites offer either 1 King bed or 2 Full beds in the bedroom with 1 Queen Sleeper sofa in the adjoining living area. These have been reserved at a rate of $109/night for the studios and $129/night for the one-bedroom suites. RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE BY OCTOBER 10 TO GET THIS RATE!

While the hotel price is higher than last year, Staybridge Suites includes a free hot breakfast and parking with the cost. In addition, they host a happy hour from 5:30-7:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings with free snacks/food, sodas, and beer. Yes, that does mean FREE BEER.

Sleep in the Deep
Bring your sleeping bags and spend the night with the fishes. If there is interest, we will offer a special slumber party for SFCers at the Tennessee Aquarium on Friday, November 14. Cost is roughly $45 a person and includes pizza, breakfast, and an IMAX movie. If you are interested, please email sfc.meetings[at]gmail.com PRIOR TO REGISTERING so we can we determine if we have enough ichthyologists to run with the program. Formalin jars strictly prohibited.
